Inaugural Class of Digital Connectors Bring Technology Leadership to the Warm Springs Tribe
This
week, One Economy Corporation joined with community partners, friends,
family, and program alumni to honor the participation of the first
class of Warm Springs Digital Connectors. The Digital Connectors
program identifies talented young people, immerses them in technology
training, and helps them build their leadership and workplace skills to
enter the new economy. Youth receive training and participate in
community service opportunities in the areas of technology instruction,
technical support, digital media, marketing, workforce readiness and
leadership development.
The Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon is home to nearly 4,000 members of the Warm Spring, Wasco, and Paiute tribes. The local Digital Connectors program is a part of a community-wide digital inclusion program created by One Economy in partnership with the Tribal Council and Eagle Tech Systems. The project, including free public Internet access points and online resources that tribal members can use to improve their lives, will help rural communities reinvent their technological capacity and become competitive players in global economy.
Nationally, 246 youth completed the Digital Connectors program this summer, including eight in Warm Springs. These youths have become a tremendous asset to their community, providing over 100 hours of computer training to local families.
The Jordan Beehive Celebrates One Year and 350,000 Visitors
