2009

  • Expanded our international programs by successfully launching online resources the Beehive in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Kenya, and began work on our first program in Latin American by holding stakeholder engagement sessions in Mexico City;
  • Extended the reach of our Digital Connectors youth program by forming new partnerships that will take the program to more than 22 new locations and train 5,000 youth in wireless technology;
  • Partnered with seven national civil rights and minority organizations to create the Broadband Opportunity Coalition, a national partnership that will drive broadband deployment to minority communities, overcome barriers to adoption, and leverage technology to improve socioeconomic outcomes.
  • Debuted the second season of the Public Internet Channel's Diary of a Single Mom series produced by Robert Townsend, which premiered at One Economy's annual gala held at the NEWSEUM in Washington, DC; and
  • Returned $12.7 million in tax refunds to 8,500 individuals through the Beehive Tax Tool.

2008

  • One Economy returns over $9 million dollars to low to moderate income families through the Beehive's free online tax filing services.
  • One Economy launches the V-Studio.  Headed by director and producer, Robert Townsend and staffed by top producers and editors, the V-Studio produces content for all of One Economy's media properties.
  • If I Were President video contest premieres on 247townhall.org, young people share their ideas and take action during 2008 presidential campaign.
  • One Economy Provides Internet Access for Hurricane Ike Survivors.
  • The Public Internet Channel (pic.tv) launches Diary of a Single Mom. The series chronicles the lives and challenges of three single mothers and their families trying to get ahead in a world that is trying to hold them under. Produced by renowned director Robert Townsend, the series featured Richard Roundtree, Billy Dee Williams and Monica Calhoun among others.


2007
  • The total number of visitors to One Economy’s media properties passes 13 million
  • One Economy expands its reach to four continents, launching new Beehives in Turkey and Jordan; the Jordan Beehive receives 30,000 monthly visitors
  • One Economy launches 247townhall.org, a civic engagement website, with a national online town hall discussion on poverty in America
  • Former FCC Chairmen and other technology leaders gather for a One Economy forum on the telecommunications issues shaping America’s future
  • “Internet Safety” becomes the most popular section on the Beehive, averaging 1,700 visitors per day
  • One Economy releases A Blueprint for Technology and the Public Good, achievable goals and policy ideas for reshaping America's technological landscape
  • ZipRoad.org launches in San Francisco and Jefferson Parish, La. as a one-of-a-kind education tool that helps students, parents, teachers, and caregivers find education-related resources in their communities
  • One Economy creates the Southern California Wildfire Help Center (SoCalHelp.org) to connect people to the information and resources they need to find temporary relief and long-term assistance following the devastating wildfires of October 2007
  • One Economy helps connect more than 1,000 families living in Habitat for Humanity homes to high-speed Internet access and computers
  • 400 Digital Connectors provide 12,000 hours of service to 1,500 families in 21 communities
  • One Economy’s Access Services team connects more than 4500 households to the Internet through direct installations and consulting with affordable housing projects
2006
  • Beehive Families receive $1.8 Million in EITC Refunds
  • One Economy Corporation successfully launches campaign for nation’s first Public Internet Channel (PiC) with honorary co-chairs Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama
  • Beehive traffic reaches all time high of 9 million unique visitors
  • One Economy and AT&T launch AccessAll, a $100 Million three-year initiative,
    the largest residential technology effort of its kind
  • One Economy wins second Webby business award
  • Over 300 people celebrate One Economy’s sixth anniversary in San Francisco at second annual Gala
