Debra Harris moved to North Carolina uncertain of how she would rebuild her life. While living in Illinois, Debra suffered a series of unfortunate injuries and illnesses and was forced to quit work and live on disability. She decided to not let her health deter her and she began making strides in self-improvement by attending her local Community College system to learn about computers. However, her long medical recovery prevented her from practicing her skills and eventually resulted in her forgetting much of what she had learned.

After moving to Winston-Salem, Debra decided she was ready to put some of the pieces back together. Taking classes offered by a partner program of One Economy, the Library Computer Training Bridge, enabled her to regain those lost skills and re-learn important workplace applications. Debra attributes her progress to her faith and writes, "I felt that with God's assistance and through the Computer Training Bridge Program I have managed to regain some of my previous computer skills by being shown the basics all over again."

Today, Debra is better qualified and more confident. "This knowledge will indeed make me more employable, thus breathing new life into me," she says. In addition to improving her own skills, Debra has helped to breathe new life into fellow participants by serving as a mentor and friend to many fellow classmates.
