Michell Morton has more than six years of community outreach experience. Michell has worked with community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG). For two years, Michell has provided technical assistance and strategic planning in the development of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Neighborhood Networks centers nationwide-remotely and through on-site visits. As a senior technical assistance coordinator, Michell increased the sustainability of HUD Neighborhood Networks centers and provide developmental skills and techniques to Neighborhood Networks center staff in the areas of partnership development and maintenance; 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-exempt applications; workforce development program design and implementation; tracking and evaluation of performance; health resources; outreach to residents and stakeholders; Strategic Tracking and Reporting Tool (START) business plan development; and grant writing. Michell has been instrumental in improving the quality of life for the residents and members of the communities the Neighborhood Networks centers serve.
Prior to joining the Neighborhood Networks Initiative, Michell served as a Legislative Assistant and Correspondent for U.S. House Representative and Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Elijah E. Cummings, where she conducted outreach and research for the 7th District of Maryland. While on the Hill, Michell assisted the member with his work on the Government Reform Committee.
